This is a series devoted to retraining a 2nd hand horse. You might wonder - what is a 2nd hand horse? A 2nd hand horse is any horse that you get that you did not raise. Like 2nd hand clothing, it had a previous owner and a mysterious past. You get the horse at a later life stage in its life with the intention of it being the horse of your dreams. Perhaps not.
I have been retraining horses for my husband and on my own for over 20 years. I've developed a program that is simple, effective and requires no special equipment (except a walking cane from Walmart). This program helps you to understand that the horse and look at the horse as God looks at us. I hope you will join me on this journey while I work with my current equine companion - Gizmo.
Gizmo is a 5 yr old quarter horse cross gelding. He is quite the baby. He loves people and loves a treat. I adore him. He came to us green broke with little knowledge of lunging or manners. He has a great canter, but a terriblely irratic trot.
